Yellow Decor for the Summer
When this time of year rolls around I can’t help but think yellow: sunshine, flowers, sandy beaches. If Summer had a colour it would be most certainly be Yellow!
Whether you prefer mellow and muted or a magnificent mustard, yellow is the perfect colour to introduce into your decor this time of year. In almost every culture in the world yellow represents happiness, yet despite it’s cheerful connotations it’s so underused in interiors; perhaps that’s why I’m so fond of it! If you saw my recent feature in The English Home magazine you’ll have noticed how I love to use the shade in my own decor, so why not try introducing it to yours?
Whether you add a pop of attention grabbing Velvet Yellow, or go for the subtle sophistication of Margot Yellow, I can guarantee your mood will lift whenever you see it. The beauty of this colour is no matter what the weather is like outside, you can bring the sunshine in with a well-placed cushion or a boldly upholstered sofa.
Where should you use yellow?
The hallway – yellow is a wonderfully welcoming colour to introduce into your hallway, the engaging colour opens up a smaller space.
The kitchen – we might wake up in the bedroom, but the day truly starts in the kitchen, adding yellow will put you in a happier mood in the morning.
The sitting room – a pop of yellow in the living room not only improves the mood, but when used on the right piece, creates a wonderful contemporary statement within any style.
The garden – In the Summer I love to bring the inside out. Scattering cushions and linens across tired garden furniture gives them a new lease of life. The garden in the perfect space to mix pattern and colour, because there’s no scheme to adhere to! Yellow in the garden adds an instant Summer feeling, whether the skies are blue or not!
